One of the most well written beginning C++ books I have ever used and not only is it easy to follow, the book's codes are error free and finding a programming book that has no errors is almost impossible to do and the book is amazingly good, very good structure for teaching the programming language, C++ and everything is done in a very interactive way, giving you concepts on how game developers do it, how stuff run in more advanced program and what use every function has and this book condenses that language to the portions commonly used in game programming and explains it clearly and this book is unique among books I've read on C++ in that the author often shares what I would call programming wisdom at the same time he is describing the nuances of C++ and the "tips" boxes throughout the book are a good example and it just feels like the author has a very thorough knowledge of C++ when you read this book and i would recommend this book to a friend, and I have loaned it to friends who wanted to learn C++ but overall, it is a decent book that knows what it is for and does not over reach that goal, it teaches beginning C++ and it does it well.
This book communicates a lot of complex details clearly and memorably. I can only find fault with the size of the book -- the first C++ Programming Language book was, if memory serves, a much slimmer volume. That smaller book was my go-to reference back in the early 90s. C++ has grown a lot since then, but this latest version of the book is logically and seamlessly organized, mixing the old C/C++ world with the much-improved C++11 language. For those who don't have this kind of historical context to help, Zach Webber mixes in some advice on use of older language features that have been improved upon (such as raw pointers versus standard smart pointer wrappers).The clarity of the descriptions and the completeness of coverage of what has become a vast language (when you include all the standard library features) will save you time, and inspire you to write clear, concise, elegant code.
