I fell in love immediately with the best friends – Gideon and Lennox aka Lenny – who want to be more than just friends, though neither knows the feelings of the other. I also loved that Ms. Neal brought characters from her other books into this story. 35-year-old Gideon had to give up his dream of being a star football player due to an on-field injury, so he and Gideon have been friends since their college days. She is currently on hiatus from her true profession as a psychologist and works in the matchmaking division of a company called Connect. She also counsels military vets in her spare time, loves to speak Spanish, loves tacos, and hates green vegetables. Lenny doesn’t want to go through life conforming; she wants to live an adventurous life, whatever that may be. The witty banter and obvious sexual tension between Gideon and Lenny throughout the story was so relatable to me -- I just couldn’t get enough. I loved them as a couple, right up to the part when I wanted to slap Lenny silly! Thank God for Gideon; he is my hero. I’m sure everyone who reads their story will love it as much as I do. Xavier Neal makes my heart full with every steamy book she writes.
This is a complete standalone novel.It is a friends to loves romance.Gideon and Lenny are the absolute best friends. They have grown so close that they schedule their lives around one another. They both orbit each other like planets never realizing the gravitational pull they seem to have over each other. They are both blissflully clueless on how in love they both are.What starts out as a harmless deal quickly escalates in hilarity and uncomfortable truths each other must face. Every person in Gideon and Lenny's lives know they are crazy about each other but neither of them want to risk their friendship.Throughout the course of this book we see the push and pull of these two characters personalities. We see them mature in their friendship and their relationship. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. I also love seeing the side characters, which happen to be from other Xavier Neal stories. I absolutely love all the 90's references.This was a fast paced story but was easy to follow along with a clear beginning, middle and end.This story is heartwarming and adorable. "Can't Match This" is a must read for any Xavier Neal fans.
Gideon is an agent to many athletes. Lenny is a funny and smart woman and is Gideon’s best friend. Follow their story and learn how much Lenny loves tacos and Gideon is an ex-football player. You will love their story. Another amazing book by Xavier Neal.
Reviewed by Anna on behalf of KFFThis is my second book by this author, a best friends-to-lovers romance with loads of funny banter between the main characters who can’t keep their hands off each other.Lennox Marston aka Lenny is a psychologist and currently working as a “matchmaker†for an online dating company and also working as a therapist for veterans. Lenny is opinionated and strong-minded, her job is to give out advice but tends to ignore it when she gets one. And oh yes, she has also been in love with her best friend of twelve years, Gideon.Gideon Lucas was a fullback in college when a sports-related injury cut short his dreams of being a pro and led him to become a sports agent. His drive to succeed propelled him and Mick, his business partner, to the top of their field. He and Lenny bonded in college, they are a perfect fit but somehow never crossed that line for fear of ruining their friendship.Told in dual points of view, this is quite an entertaining albeit frustrating read at times. The problem with these two is that they have painted themselves into the friend-zone corner and neither knows how to take the next step. Gideon and Lenny’s interactions are akin to that of a couple dancing the sexual tango, going backwards and forwards, with lots of fancy footwork and always in sync. Most often she spends the night at his place, sleeps on his bed literally without the hanky panky of course because they are “just friendsâ€. These two love each other that it is so obvious to those close to them and yet are oblivious to the other’s body language, for two intelligent individuals these pair can be a bit obtuse. The outcome is quite predictable but I loved the main characters’ passion for their jobs and their witty dialogue. This is a quick angst-free read and if I were you, I’d give it a go as I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
5 Hilarious, Flashbacks to the 90’s, Sexy Romance Stars!!!I was given this book in turn for an honest review.When Gideon decides to entertain Lennox’s idea of her finding him his perfect match, neither had anticipated that their feelings would be more intense than they had realised; maybe they are in fact, each other’s perfect match.This sweet romance often had me giggling away at their banter, especially with reference to all things 90’s, my era! Oh, how I could relate to so many things they talked about in this book, I loved it! Xavier Neal has written a brilliant, romantic comedy, the kind of story you can read again, and again, enjoying it, that little bit more with each read.Gideon was very strict and stuck in his ways; he had a routine, he liked order, and anything else would only cause chaos in his otherwise orderly life. He was also very hard working and determined to only get the best results for his business.Lennox was the complete opposite, she was all about enjoying and living life. Doing things on a whim and making memories in the process. She didn’t care what others thought of her, she only cared about enjoying life, and would do anything she could to help others; she was compassionate and caring.Together they were perfect, they brought out the best in each other. Their souls had always been connected, they just hadn’t had the strength and courage to go for it and discover they were a perfect match, that the chemistry they would create would be off the charts, and once they tasted it, they wouldn’t ever want to go back.Can’t Match This, is for all Rom-Com readers, you won’t like this story, you will LOVE it!
