I found this to be a very helpful book, but I'm not sure I love the whole concept of these "teach yourself visually" books. And that's kind of surprising because I'm a photographer (though also a writer) and so a very visual person by nature. This book is nicely done, the quality of the reproduction is pretty good and the ground that the book covers is very thorough. but I did sometimes found myself wishing for more text. After a while looking at all of those (relatively small) illustrations made me long for a few pages of text here and there.But that said, I can't imagine tackling something like a new phone without a book like this. There are simply too many features built into phones (and some cameras) these days to muddle through the horrible manuals that come with them. This book (and others in the series) shine best when you need to work through a specific task and you just want the step-by-step with illustrations that lead your through that operation. In that context, this book excels.I would definitely buy one of these guides with any new phone--and order them both the same day. It may not answer every question, but it will guide you through 99-percent of most common operations. Definitely worth the money, if only to keep your spouse from saying, "Put the phone down and come to bed. You can figure it out in the morning."
I am the kind of person who needs pictures when I am learning to do something, it just makes things so much clearer to me. This line of books are great for that. There is simple, easy to understand text with a picture that is worth a million words. I can't even tell you what number this book is in my Teach Yourself library. I have used them for years to teach myself all types of computer and electronic topics. This Samsung S 5 does not disappoint. It tells and shows you just what you need to know to become a pretty proficient user of the phone and apps. Once you learn the basics in this book you can advance well on your own. I started out just poking around on my phone and learned some that way but this book filled in the holes. It is a good read for anyone who is struggling with their phone or for anyone who just wants to make it work at a fuller potential like I did. Any of the Teach Yourself VIsually books are great for learning, and this is no exception. One mention about the book itself, it has begun to physically fall apart. It started to loose pages from the binding when I got to the middle of the book and I had to be extremely careful from that point on. Just a nuisance really, but kind of a big one. First time that has ever happened to one of their volumes and I have at least 6.
Bought this book to learn how to use your new Samsung galaxy S5 cell phone.This book is amazingly easy to understand, gives you visual pictures along with the narratives. I browsed through this book and know that my wife will have an easy time understanding how to use her new cell phone that I bought for her .Sincerely, Mike.
This is a good book for someone like me who has never used a smart phone before. The screenshots showing each step are very helpful. There is still information that I need and have been unable to find in this book. I downloaded the large user guide for the Galaxy S5 which was also helpful. Some questions I had to search online for answers from other users - and I have been pretty successful with that. All in all, I think this book was a good purchase and I recommend it.
ONLY NOW am I able to have a "user friendly" cell phone! "Teach Yourself Visually" has opened up so many new features on the Samsung Galaxy S5 that would have taken me so much longer to master. To visually define all of the new features of this phone has been well worth the small price I paid for this guide. I have shared the guide with so many of my friends that I am sure they will be ordering their own copies very soon!
This book is like the other ones in the series. The table of contents sends you for exactly what you are looking for while the chapters start at the beginning and move to more complicated items. In each case thee is a picture, numbered items matching text at the bottom or side of the page to explain verbally what you are seeing visually. Excellent book. Plenty of space for your own notes.
What this book covers it covers very well, but there are many things that the phone does, that are not in the book. I realize the book would be much thicker if it did cover 80 to 90 percent, but then the author should say, up front that this book only covers the VERY basics settings, apps, etc.
This is my first used book to purchase and it left me with the unanswerable question, "why haven't I been doing this all along. This is a very useful book for quick look ups and for reading over a few times. Always find something useful that I hadn't read before.
